This past week was just that, a blur. If you were to ask me what happened last week, I would have to sit down for a while, grab a coffee, and really think about it. It went by so fast that I’m not sure I can even tell you anything right now.
I can tell you that it has gotten really cold here! It snowed a good bit on Friday and has been freezing cold since then. I normally am one to grumble and complain about the cold weather, but this year I am trying a different approach. I am going to appreciate the weather and the beautiful change in the season.
Because it really is beautiful. Snow lined streets, snow covered branches, and the colorful winter sky. This time of year, when you take some time to actually look, the sky is literally God’s canvas. He gets REALLY creative with the colors he splashes on the sky of a canvas he has at his finger tips and it is worth the sub-freezing temperatures. This is how I am approaching this winter season.
I have also subscribed to a lot of new podcasts in the last week:
The Dealta Park Project is hilarious, first of all, simply hilarious. “…married hosts Jason and Anna watch way too much tv so you don’t have to. Movie Reviews, TiVo Addictions, Wacky Music, Hometown News, Pet Songs and You!” I discovered them on the Blue Microphone website where they gave a quick demo of the Snowball Microphone (which if you haven’t heard is on my Christmas list…maybe they’ll get it for me since I plugged them here?). They gave a good review so I went to the site and subscribed in iTunes. I recommend you do the same too. They will make you laugh, and who doesn’t like to laugh?
“Leo Laporte – The Tech Guy” and “MacBreak Weekly” are both on my list obviously because of my recent MacBook purchase. I started listening to “TWiT” a few weeks before the purchase and figured that once I had the MacBook I should get educated.
“Something Beautiful” is a “weekly experiment in podcasting, hosted by Thomas and Jonathan. [Their] goal is to share stories from ordinary folks and radicals about their lives and how God has made an impact in their day to day life.” I follow Jonathan on Twitter and when he heard that I had published my first podcast yesterday, he recommeneded his podcast so I could get some more ideas on how to do it. I listened to this podcast yesterday and will continue to do so, very good and rich content focused on the larger things in life: God.
That’s right, I have a podcast out there for my other website! Recorded and edited on Friday and finally published to the website on Saturday. It has been submitted to iTunes but I’m sure that can take some time for it to be approved and available for subscription from iTunes. Check it out, if you have a spare 15 minutes. Give me feedback if you have any! I plan to have it on a weekly schedule and am still working out exactly what it will offer the listeners that they can’t already get from the website. Any ideas?
NaNoWriMo, oh NaNoWriMo. I’m chugging along with my word count and am having a blast doing so. Yesterday I dipped into the 43,000 word count (which you can see on the right hand side of your screen) and am actually coming to the climax in the book, which is perfect timing for a 50,000 word count goal. My plot has maintained a good course and my characters have been treating me pretty good, even though I don’t do the same for them. I’m eager to get it finished and start editing the manuscript come January of 2009. Below is a little excerpt for you:
When she finally saw the inside of the vehicle she almost lost the lunch she had eaten a few hours previously. Being on this assignment for so long had caused her to loose her tough skin to violence and the mess it created. Inside the black SUV were four dead bodies. Three in the back and one in the front passenger seat. The man in the front passenger seat had been shot through his temple. The man in the rear middle seat, and the man in the back right both had shots to the forehead. The fourth man had actually suffered and ultimately died from multiple stab wounds and finally, she assumed, a sliced throat.
The carpet, seats, and windows were all covered in blood and fragments of bones and tissue. All of it still very warm meaning that this was very recent. After taking a brief but concise assessment of the scene she ran back to her car but only made it half way before the blast carried her the rest of the way and landed her with a smash through the windshield of her car.
That is the part of the book I have been telling to family and friends. Still very rough and unedited, but a good part of the story. More to come when I actually start to clean it up next year.
That should do it for now. That seems like a pretty good update. Give the podcasts above a listen and share mine with family and friends, if you don’t mind. More to come on that front and it is only going to get better as each episode goes up.
Now, I’m off to write for the other site and then NaNoWriMo. Have a great week
